Help! banking advice!!

Hi guys, im off to Oz next month. I have a HSBC Plus account with a visa card and one of the benefits of this is that i get free cash machine withdrawals worldwide. I have called HSBC and they have said that they will definately not charge me anything, but they cant say if the Oz bank would charge me anything. Can anyone advise me on this. Many Thanks. x

There's a good (or bad) chance that the Oz bank will charge you to use your HSBC card. They charge around $2 per ATM transaction for locals who use am ATM of a bank other than that of the issuing card, so I don't think you'd be exempt. Whether they are sophisticated enough to debit a foreign account is anyone's guess.

Also there may not be a HSBC ATM in some of the places you go to. Might be better off getting an Aussie bank account if you're going to be there longer.
