Definitely get a more recent version.
If it was 1 or maybe 2 years, I'd say OK-- but 8 is pushing it.
It may be OK to give you a rough idea on itineraries, and sights you don't want to miss.
But if you use it for recommendations on guesthouses and restaurants ( which I certainly always do) I think the information could be a bit outdated.
Use it to get a feel for the place before you go . Then buy one when you get there .
They are cheap in SEA, copied versions but they do the job .
