Showing all articles and isin tag

Is there a way to look at all articles that are in a certain subcategory, say Europe? Or France? Or Bavaria?

I don't think there's a way to locate all articles under an Isin tag (assuming that's been done correctly of course), but it does sound like something that could be useful in the future.

One way of finding pages that haven't been linked up is to look at the ''. That will show pages that contain content, but haven't been linked to from anywhere. Similarly, the page is a good place to find articles that a lot of people have linked to, but don't contain an article yet. Not what you're after, but just throwing it in there

Re the special travel articles, I think those would go under General Guides. The guide, falls under the , which again goes under that section. I thought there was a Famous Rivers one as well, but I must be mixed up on that account.

Not sure what to do on rivers that span more than one country, but aren't famous? Anyone have any ideas for that?!

That is a very good suggestion from t_maia. I've been working at writing some articles for France recently (and looking at other articles etc) and found that isin tag is not always as hierarchical due to missing articles in between e.g. Paris is currently simply under France, because Ile-de-France is not written up yet. (I'm tempted to change the isin but decided I wouldn't until I have at least time to work on Ile-de-France so that it's not an empty article link.)

Certainly if a list of articles under a certain country is available, that'll be great for tidying up the isin for articles that are currently present, and to perhaps systematically link the relevant articles to one another. Just my two cents

By the way, the wiki requests page - are they updated automatically?

Also, noted these two lists, which are serving the same purpose (I assume):

Can a consolidation of some sort be done, and perhaps group the cities/places at least by continent? Some of the places in the lists above do already have a basic article of some sort in place, just need more information maybe.

Okay, the fact that there were two of those pages had me a little confused too I see there was about this. Because so many weren't cities, the cities were broken out into their own separate page. These two lists are fully manual, so adds in the lists. It's based on places we know are popular from accommodation bookings. The difference with the page is that that one is fully automatic, and basically is based on the number of times people have linked to a city that doesn't yet contain an article.

But really all three lists are just meant to help people unsure of what to tackle get a fresh idea.

It would be good to have some manual way of combining all three lists though. It's got to be possible really!! Let me ask Peter what he thinks.

Regarding the isin 'jumping over' states or regions for example, that is on purpose. If you would link to a non existent article, we wouldn't be able to figure out under what country that non existent article falls (or it might even fall under a state or something else itself), so then you'd miss the country links, and all other links up the hierarchy so to speak. But yes, the downside is that you could create an article which is for a region, and then have to redo all the cities in that region to fall underneath it...

Ah no wonder I was a bit confused. Because looking at the places list, a lot of them look to be cities to me. Wow that must be considerable amount of work for Eric to do then, to manually add them etc. Do you think it'll be better for both lists to be consolidated so authors can have one central place to check the list? Or ordered in some way so that they can be visualised better? There are repetitions between the two lists as well.

I can try to parse the list on linux to get them in order by country for whatever we have so far on the two manual lists, and put them together as list of places/cities without articles. That should be pretty straight forward, and it'll save someone from having to manually order them or anything.

Yes, looking at them now I was wondering why we had three to be honest I understand the reasoning behind it though, because traditionally we haven't had the level of knowledge we have now about where for example bookings are taking place. Nowadays though, it's all housed in our own database, so there's really no reason all three couldn't be combined, and then also grouped by region (and deleted from the list when there is an article for them).

I'm just double checking with Peter and Eric, but assuming they are happy with that, we should be able to have that up quite quick

Certainly, we can keep the automated list as it is, since it gives a good indicator of articles that authors are trying to link to, but to no avail.

Thanks for looking into the matter

Okay, we've emailed back and forth about it a bit and they tell me this is a one off list generated, so it will probably not ever be generated again. The cities one was old though, so I've gone through it and move any articles that hadn't been done yet (there were only about 15 or so) over to the places article.

This also means the wiki requests page just indicates the one thing, ie. which pages are being linked to most from other pages and thus probably are deserving of a guide.

I am asking Eric if there's any way to do this list alphabetically at the least!
