From Thailand, you can get to Laos via:
1. Chiang Kong to Huayxai and boatride all the way to Luang Prabang with overnite stop over at Pak Beng. This way, you will get to see LP, and then bus down south over mountain passes to Vientiane via Veng Vieng,etc. From Vientiane, you can bus all the way to Pakse and beyond to Laotian border and exit into Cambodia at Veung Kham immigration post. Take boat across to Don Krolor ( Cambodian immigration ), and you will be dropped off at Stung Treng. From here, you can take bus onward to your preferred destinations in Cambodia.
2. The other way is to cross over to Laos from Nongkai to Vientiane via the Friendship bridge, but you will miss out on LP.
Next, from Cambodia, you can get back to Thailand via:
1. Siem Reap to Sisaphon and on to Poipet ( Laos border ) and exit to Aranya Prathet (Thailand ). From AP, you can take bus all the way back to BKK (or train). This is by far, the common entry/exit point.
2. Ko Kong ( southern Cambodia) to Had Lek ( Thailand ). Travellers take this route if they are headed to Ko Kong & Sihanoukville .
