Hi everyone
My sister and I are planning a trip to either south or central america in July/August, for approx 4-6 weeks.
I know that's limited time so we want to pick the right places to see.
I'm 25, my sister is 23 and neither of us speak spanish(although I'll make sure to learn the most useful phrases before we go). We both love the beach and we'll be on a budget. We're after both a bit of adventure and the laidback lifestyle Any tips on what to do/not to do would be appreciated! Also tips on inland flights would be great as I've heard that can be quite dear.
A lot more choice in South America-natural enough as it's a huge place.
Pick 2 or 3 countries and stick with them.
I disagree with Sam, which happens 56 percent of the time....
Central America is cheap, with a ton more choices in a substantially smaller area, and it's always hot and pretty near a beach. South America is just too farking big for you to see a ton of stuff. And having experience in all of the Caribbean countries, along their shores....I'd say go to Honduras or Panama or...(What? Can it be?) CR.
It all rests on what you want. There are NO cities that function like NA cities in CentrAm. It's one step removed from gunslinger times in lots of places...
SoAm on the other hand, has lots of towns that THINK they are NA cities but are really poor replicas. My SoAM experiences have been disappointing.
a 4-6 week trip calls for CA, in my opinion. You can see several countries pretty close together, with beaches all over the place. It's generally safe. The beer is cheap. The architecture is colonial. With decent food that is not mashed avacado (which is the nauseating babyfood that Chileans consider their favourite dish.) Again, the SoAM lifestyle really desires to be the hustle and bustle of NoAm ,but cannot achieve it because of factors that I cannot fathom (though I have STRONG ideas) CentrAm couldn't give a flying funicular about the speed of NoAm and is better for it...(though you may need a good magazine as you wait for your food)
My call is choose Central America. You'll like it for a short trip.

If meat pies are your idea of good food then any of the banana republics-including would suit Yes.
Any place that's had 120+ governments in 140+ years can't be all bad!
what about mexico?? what country would be the best one to fly into, where to start? from Australia..
