I don't think you are expected to work more than a couple months as a backpacker but aparently you can't work more than 6 months in any one job...

The 6 month limit is for the employer, not the job. You're unable to work for the same employer for more than 6 months - however if you obtain work through the same temp agency but at a different company then this is ok, as in this case the employer is considered the business you're working for rather than the agency.
I think its highly unlikely that you'll find an employer looking to hire you for just a week. Also, if you want to do bartending you need to get your RSA (responsible service of alcohol) which is a 75$ course so for a week of work its not really worth it. Of course, you can do fruit picking for however long you want to, but really, its very hard work. Hope you enjoy ur time in oz regardless!
