North Of Auckland

Planning on spending a couple of months north of Auckland and generally on the North Island. Does anyone have any recommendations of where to go, what to see and general job possibilities? Thanks

Pahia (NOT PIHA), The Bay of Islands. It's a beautiful little summer holiday town and my have some work. It's a good central base for tripping around, too. There are a lot of activities in the area.

Mangawhai is also cute, has great surf and isn't so far to Auckland.

Whangarei is the sort of main, largest town and probably another safe bet for work.

Northland is just lovely in summer but it is a long way to anywhere else in New Zealand. Which is good in many ways as well.

As for other places in the North Island I recommend you get up the Coromandel Peninsula. Rotorua is very touristy and if you want to see geothermal stuff there are places outside of it which are cheaper and better, like Oraki Korako or Waitaki Valley. Mount Maunganui is great and it's where I've called home for 2 years but east up the coast is Ohope Beach and it's quieter and lovely. Taupo, Ruapehu and National Park...I could go on...it's all good....except Hamilton.

Have fun, it's such a beautiful country!

There's a wide variety of activities in Northland, from Water type activities in the Bay of Islands (Paihia as noted above) to all sorts of sight seeing and nature type things
