Passport Photo

Hi Everyone,

It's an important document, so save yourself a headache and a LOT of time and get them done somewhere that specializes. The savings are small if you do them yourself - and one mistake means you'll have to do them all over again, or pay to get them done properly maybe after having documents returned! If you really want to skimp - get one set done, then scan and print more - but you'll only save pennies and the quality may not be all that.

if you ask, you might be able to get a discount for the 15 (16) copies you need. just a thought.

Note that you might end up having to pay the fees for the passport fotos anyway, especially when you plan to apply on the road.

Different countries have different standards for what is an acceptable fotograph on the visa application.

Usually the photo has to be in a certain size, the head has to be at a certain angle and at a certain size and there are rules on which backgrounds are allowed.

To make it even more fun - these rules vary from embassy to embassy. What is an acceptable photo to the Chinese embassy in London may not be an acceptable photo for the Chinese embassy in Berlin.

I had 1 set done properly in a booth. Then scanned one of the photos using an old scanner I have at home. Then I got these people http://www.mypix.com/uk/uk/home/?action=photo_identite to print me some more. They charge £1 for 8 and they are almost identical to the proper ones. I think with postage it cost about £5 for 24. So there is a little bit of money to be saved. That website was by far the cheapest as well.
