Hi,
I just came to Italy two months ago. I had clearly applied for a schengen visa in India but My passport says Valid- Italia, It is a D type of visa. I was wondering if it is a schengen visa as I wish to travel to France soon.
I also applied for the Italian residence permit and I have its receipt with me.
any help would be great.

I don't know the Italian procedure, but if you had the same visa for Germany with the application for residency permit pending you would not be able to travel unless you are married to a EU-citizen.
It should be Schengen. With free right to travel within the Schengen area, I'm pretty sure that a visa that's valid in 1 Schengen country is valid in all of them.
