Days in Amsterdam

Will two days in Amsterdam give me enough time?

Thats depends on what you want to see, is it just Amsterdam or also the surroundings?

It's enough to get a feel for the city at least. Just don't spend them waiting in line for the Anne Frankhuis: that would be an awful waste of time.

If we can buy tickets to Ann Frank house before we go, would that alleviate standing in line?

It would, but imo it's still a waste of time

I find it amazing how they succeed in drawing these huge masses decade after decade, while there is virtually nothing there to see. If you want interesting Jewish history, I suggest a trip to the Jewish Historical Museum and/or the portuguese synagogue, both of which are a whole lot more informative.

I would have to disagre and say that the Ann Frank museum is a must see. But 2 days in Amsterdam of course is not enough time to see it all. But 2 days is better than 0 days! It's one of my favourite cities.

2 days in Amsterdam? Maybe for a start, but once you've done your 48 hours, you'll be tearful having leave so soon.
It is the most tremendous city and one of the planet's friendliest - oh and endless fun too. You know, all the folks here from the UK that talk about their RTW's - it's nearly always the same old thing.... India, Thailand, Oz etc. When you meet Australians or New Zealanders, their RTW nearly always takes in Amsterdam en-route. They don't divert from Germany or some other country to get there, they fly straight into Schiphol and just slum it for a few days. I think that speaks for itself. Asia has Bangkok, Europe has Amsterdam.
It is just so diverse, from ancient history to ultra modern. Watch out for the thousands of pushbikes that have no mercy if you walk in front of one. I just love the the place.

If you only have a few days, these are the highlights in my opinion:

  • Vondelpark with Beergarden at Blauwe Theehuis
  • Free ferry's behind Central Station will take you over the IJ
  • De Pijp and Jordaan area, small scale streets with nice terraces and shops
  • Nieuwmarkt is best place to meet the locals when going out
  • Rent you own boat at Boaty rental boats to cruise the canals for a couple of hours
  • Pacific Parc in Westerpark
  • Catch to bus to Ijmuiden for some beach

Enough time for what? To cook an egg, yes. To enjoy an amazing city, no.

Amsterdams an amazing city and i love it, 2 days is not enough to appreciate everything its got and have a good time. but you can see a fair bit if you plan a little before. Depends what you want to do really, you could spend a whole day just recovering from a real heavy night :D

Have an good time!
