Well, Utrecht has been doing most of the moderating of photos over the last few months and I think does a pretty excellent job actually. Moderating your own photos is always tricky though - I probably featured quite a few of my own that no-one else would bother with. But hey, it's a small reward for all the hours spent trawling through them.
It does bring up a valid point though - we need more photo moderators!! Sometimes we have over 2000 photos in a day and with only a few people looking at them it is actually quite a big job to deal with. Having more people involved also allows moderators to ignore their own photos and let others decide instead. I now this is what Utrecht prefers since he asks me to do that for him mostly. I just failed in my duty here Truth be told, I probably still would have featured most of those if it was me as well.

Was actually the first time I chose to, as apart from Peter nobody else watches those photos at all.
I usually upload like a few dozen on average of best photos per trip and as it took days or even weeks that I waiting for my own photos to be viewed. I ask for a second opinion this time.
Many others upload like hundreds of photos and I also feature many photos of others if they are good. Check photos of Marlis or Rhombus for example, they upload few but good photos.
Unlike Peter, I am a not so nice person, because I am direct: that's why I say to you that it's a pretty sad and frustrating reaction of you, you must have a hard time travelling around or something. You could ask me or Peter or other moderators, but this is really really sad.
I surely don't vote for Dodger as a moderator that's for sure

Presuming to speak for Sam and Peter on this subject, I just want to state explicitly that you'd never be banned on this forum for speaking up like this. I suspect your smilie means you weren't seriously thinking that anyway, but I think it's important to point out explicitly, as other readers might not understand. Critique and feedback is good; any website where its most active members are hesitant about speaking out about things they think might be amiss, would be a bad place to be.
That said, you might've brought your point a bit more carefully worded; Utrecht's been putting in a huge amount of work for the benefit of the forum, and that deserves some consideration. I remember quite clearly from when I was still actively moderating photos what an incredible workload it is.
I do think it was a mistake for Utrecht to feature any of his own photos - I know I always steered far away from that temptation myself - and that it could easily be seen as a dangerous step on a slippery slope; but realistically (and based on the actual photos), I don't think this instance was something which actually is a problem.

I think as a moderator, you should expect to every so often get feedback on your actions (especially those actions which are only available to moderators) which aren't targeted toward you the person, but purely seen in the light of your role as moderator. I think an important trait of a successful moderator is to see those reactions in the best possible (least extreme) light, no matter how they're actually worded. Moderators moderate the flow of conversation on a forum; they file off the sharp edges, dampen the peaks of big upheavals, remove disruptions (trolls, spammers), and allow everyone else to have a good time. Sure, Dodger could've brought his point across more moderately, and you might say that as such he wouldn't be a good moderator, but y'know, the same could then be said for your reaction to his post, while you actually have this role.
So, all in all, I think it's a good thing that Dodger spoke out. (Also, it's a good thing that moderators aren't chosen by popular vote.)

Well, actually nobody knows that I moderated photos at all I guess, except a handful of other moderators. Therefore, it couldn't be aimed personally at me, but I do was suprised by his assumption that the photos make featured ones for India. I think apart from people, temples and the like, animals are possible as well.
Anyway, the only reason I featured my own for the first time, was that indeed the amount of photos builds up very quickly (1000 on a 'good' day, over 2000 on a 'bad' day) AND that currently I was the only one moderating them. Next time I will ask either you (Sander), Peter or others to check it if they can.
And I would surely like the ones I featured myself to be checked as we speak by someone else. My main goal is to have great galleries for all countries and don't want to mess with it if someone else thinks differently. It's all a matter of personal taste, but I really watched them they way I do with photos of other members. There were still a bunch I didn't like to much, but just uploaded them for my own use. Still, being biased because of the fact I like animals (and tigers particularly) can be the case here.
Dodger, forget about my first to personal reaction towards you, that surely wasn't the way a moderator, or anyone else for that matter, should speak. If you'd like, PM me about what photos you should or should not feature and I'll be happy to (un)feature them. I don't care about a few more or less, it's the galleries and also the adding of featured photos (which are prefered above non-featured ones) in travelguide articles like or which I wrote yesterday. Hope this makes a little more sense

I think my work is done here. I brought up a subject that needed to be brought up and now seems to be corrected. The thing I like and I'm sure is what is making this forum successful, is that you guys do do a great job, both in the quality of the content and the simplicity in which its presented.
I didn't know for sure Utrecht was moderating the photos, but I suspected, since I really think some of his last photos didn't have the impact that others chosen did. But hey I totally understand now with the work he puts in he should certainly have a little leeway. I can't even imagine the work involved with looking through all those photos and having to make choices. Shit I can't even be bothered to look through half of mine and load them!

I'm still traveling and although I've had more time lately, as I've been in New Zealand nicely based in my campervan with wi fi, I am leaving this week to head back into Asia. So it will be back to sporadic Internet and not so focused on what goes on in it. If you think I can help, then I'd be honored to be a part of this site. But do you really want me at the hands of important levers and switches!? you may wake up one morning to find I accidentally hit the "delete travellerspoint" button. Believe me, if there is such a thing I will accidentally find it! And I'm not sure how much of a commitment I can make. Shit, I'm 47, divorced, sold my house and business and traveling the world for the last 2 years, still don't know what I want to do with the rest of my life, how much responsibility do you think I can handle!

By the way, nice work on the write up of Bandhavgarh park in the travel guide. I was hoping to make it there myself back in November, but was so exhausted from riding all the way down from Manali and through Rajasthan all I wanted to do was get to the beach in Goa. At the lost city of Mandu I changed my plan from going east to the park and just went south to Elora caves and then Goa. One month riding almost everyday through India on a Royal Enfield is maybe too much!

Hitting the Delete Travellerspoint button would be the worst thing since MacGyver didn't show up on TV anymore, but as you pointed out about the last photos that are not good compared to others before which others featured, I would seriously ask you again to point out which ones should be left out (apart from the tigers of course, those are off limits).
Bandhavgarh is best during the late dry season, March to May. Went in March because it was better weatherwise, but April and May are even better I've heard. Have fun!
