I leave for Sydney in 2 weeks (I'll be there until after New Year) and it's my first time travelling solo (first time 'travelling' really, too). I put it off for a few years because of the solo thing, but eventually just thought 'sod it'. Going from other threads on this site and hearing from people who have done it before, travelling solo is the last thing to worry about. Most other people are in the same boat, so you won't be on your own for long.
The accommodation page on here has reviews/ratings of hostels. Give me a shout if you want someone to have a pint with!
I am returning to Sydney/Brisbane from 2-20 January on my own after spending a year in Australia last year. I turn 30 and wanted to celebrate it somewhere I love and I am coming back on my own. Got a few friends I met when I was out there but staying in a hostel for the whole period so I can meet more people.
There is really nothing to worry about as most people travel alone.
I am staying in WakeUp in Sydney city centre, most of the best hostels are in the centre. Feel free to ask me if you want to know anything else
