my first backpacking trip, doing south america

me and 3 of my closest friends are going to backpack south america this summer for 6 weeks?
this being our first trip help advice and help on what to bring/ how much to save would be helpful

hey,

You should go to Rio de Janeiro and Buzios, also in Brasil Arraial d' Ajuda e Trancoso are great.

Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu in Peru is also a great route.

Atacama Desert should be nice too.

Ralph

It's a big place and there's loads to see and do, anything from mountain biking to paragliding, hiking to dune surfing, surfing to skiing down volcanoes, there's also diving, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, whale watching, absailing, canyoning.

South America is just full of things to do.

Do you know where you're starting, that might give an idea of how far you can get in that kind of time.

Rio de Janeiro, Beunos Aires and Bogota are the three big cities I'd recommend you to check out if you're anywhere near them.

not sure where to start, most likely where ever the cheapest place to fly to from england is.
then go clockwise round

that sounds awesome, were definatly doing the inca trail and going to the amazon so far

hi Packerman
i think Peru and Boliiva are the cheapest places to stay.
so Inca Trai is a good decision, and probably the coast of Peru
and Ecuador could good too now in summer.

thanks, do you know where the best places are to fly to?

well i think you can star your trip in Ecuador, then Peru, Bolivia, and Brasil,
could be a route, if you like flying in Peru there is a spectacular place called
Lines of Nazca. It is a place with a special lines drawn in the field that can't be seen
standing on surface, you need to take a plane to see them for about 1 hour
from the space.

OTHER ADVICES
- a flying from Ecuador to Lima - Peru

- a flying from Lima to Iquitos ( both cities are in Peru, Lima is the coast and iquitos the jungle) it is nice.

- a flying from Lima to Cusco
