Central America to Peru

Okay, so I know I am going to be bombarded with people telling me this is near impossible, but I am going to still throw it out there and hope someone- anyone for that matter- is able to offer some assistance.
I have my flights booked to leave Melbourne, Australia Jan 7th, fly into Mexico City then basically leave from Bogota, Columbia March 8th....
Here is what I propose and hope to dear god there is someone who can give me any advice!
My boy is demanding equal parts be spent on beach side to my ruin finding, he really wants to spend some time in Peurto Escondido and the Corne Islands, I would love to do Guatemala and here is the tricky bit- I really, really want to do Machu Picchu! Now I know this is going to involve some back tracking- but I'm studying Native American History so I can't express how much this little side trip would mean to me....

You can fly from Panama City to Lima quite easily.

Also-Peru is replete with indigenous culture of many types some fossilised some living there's much more to the place than Machu Picchu.

Careful out on the Corn Islands-reports lately tell of a place under siege from drug related crime.

If we went to Peru we would definitely spend more time there than just seeing Machu Micchu- was just more to give direction for where I hoped to be going....
I haven't heard this about the Corne Islands- most posts I've found have been from a year or two ago- perhaps this is why?
Thank you though!

If you are interested in peruvian ruins/tempels... I recommend as well choquequiraw and kuelap which for me are much more beautifull..... take a look on the internet, I'm sure you would like it...
and yes, the flights from panama to lima are not that expensive for international southamerican standarts....
and peru has as well beaches.... most of all good for surfing..
