right, im off to thailand in the next couple of months. and i'm thinking cameras.
Why do you think you can't take a DSLR with you to Thailand? I did, and have gorgeous photos to show for it.
Obviously you shouldn't strut around with expensive gear around your neck all the time, but if you just put your DSLR with a lens or two in a small daypack, and only take it out when actually taking photos, you should be fine. A DSLR is a tool. Yes, it's valuable, but all the same it's meant to be used. If you're afraid to use the tool for its purpose, what's the use of having it? (Also, good travel insurance which covers electronic equipment up to a high amount might give you some peace of mind.)
Or if it's more the bulk and weight aspect... that's really entirely doable. The way I do it is mostly an 18-200 lens for versatility, on camera in a small triangular toploader bag, and that goes into the daypack when not in use. And one extra lens in that daypack for indulgence.

I havnt got all that kit. Iv just got Dslr with one lens. I'm a student so costs are a major issue, I won't be able to get a new lens or such. But was thinking about an slr which are usually cheap.
The whole reason for doing this is lugging an slr around, that's why I have a good digital compact camera that's easy to put in the pocket. Then was thinking an slr to keep in the bag for those really special moments
Sorry about bad English, done on my iPhone so couldn't see what I was typing
Smaller and lighter also makes it easier for the thieves to take from your pocket.
There's a ton of used SLR's out there these days. Just don't forget the weight and hassle of carrying around rolls of film.
