Super quick backpacking trip to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam

Hi Everyone!! Im a femaile traveller planning a super quick backpacking trip to SouthEast Asia in late February or early March (will prolly be late Feb) I wanna hit up Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam in 10 days!! (I know 10 days is super short --but I plan on returning in the future I was thinking 2 days in Bangkok, 1 day in Chiang Mai, and the remaining 3 days on the Phi Phi Islands,Maya Bay, and monkey beach. The main activities Im interested in Thailaind include taking a Thai cooking class, elephant riding, and beaching it. Would spend 2 days each in Cambodia and Vietnam--just wanna see the major attraction in each country----any suggestions on my crazy trip idea?? lol..hostels??? As of right now, Im traveling alone but would love a travel buddy

I would say it's to short...
why the hassle if you are sure that you are returning??
if you have so short I would skip the north or the south of thailand for example, otherwise you will be the whole time on buses ... so bangkok and chiang mai or bangkok and the south sounds like less stress....
and probably you could decide between cambodia or vietnam....
anyway i hope you pass great 10 days

If you are sure you are going to return, just hit one country. If you did Thailand you could hit up bangkok for a couple days then catch an overnight train to chaingmai so you don't lose a day and then flight down to phuket.

never rush travel.

Thanks so much for your replies guys!! Ive thought about it and Ive decided to heed your advice...Im cutting out Cambodia and Vietnam and will only do Thailand for 10 fabulous days!! Sheds141 I was thinking of just that doing Bangkok for 3 days and then taking an overnight train to chang mai for a 2 day trip..then from there fly south. Im hoping to take a Thai cooking class in Bangkok, and hit up some cool sites in Bangkok. Any ideas or suggesstions for must see sites/activities on my short stay in bangkok?? Anyone know of ny student budget friendly thai cooking classes in bangkok? Up north I just want to experience an elephant ride, and would like to visit a village, but not sure if that will be doiable in 2 days. Any thoughts on actvities for up North? In regards to the South, Im all about beaching it and snorkeling (for the 1st time--yay)..lol. I've fallen in love with pics of the phi phi islands, maya bay, and monkey beach. I definitely want to hit those places up while down there for the last 5 days of my trip then fly back to bangkok where I'll fly back to NYC. I believe phi phi is in the krabi region, is it best to have phuket be my home base or krabi? As of now, I'll be travelling alone and would love to share this experience with other happy & excited travellers, so im thinking a stay at a hostel would be best. Any recommendations for bangkok or the south? Also, Ive seen island hopping tours for phi phi islands and such, has any one been on such tours? Thanks in advance for your replies.

When you need recommendations for your hotels mention your price range. Sometimes there is not a great difference in price between hostels and small hotels except in a hotel you don't have to share a toilet and shower with anyone! Guest houses in Thailand are more like like small hotels.

I would add at least one extra day in the Chiang Mai area. Some travelers believe that Northern Thailand is the "real" Thailand not just the beach areas. (You can get a tan even in Chiang Mai!) There are cooking schools in Chiang Mai too!

If you schedule a final night in Bangkok you will be able to purchase last minute souvenirs, maybe take an evening dinner cruise and be only a taxi ride to the airport.

A Google check will give you some ideas on what to see and do in your areas of interest. For instance, just enter "what to see and do in Chiang Mai" (or Phuket, etc.) and you will get lots of links.

Some hotels will store stuff for you figuring that you will return and book another room with them. This way you could store your winter items and not lug them all over Thailand. Also remember to sign up for the frequent flyer program your airline offers - lots of miles for your ride to Thailand. Miles mean free rides and other perks later on.

In Thailand if you need tours you can get them through local travel agencies. They are used to tourists needing trips right away. You can get your plane tickets in Bangkok for Phuket. For the train ride up to Chaing Mai, if you want the sleeper car get that ticket as soon as possible on arrival at Bangkok.

There are several posts on transportation from the airport to hotels in Bangkok that may be helpful. Wait until you get to Thailand for your best exchange rate for changing dollars to baht. Bank money changers available at the airport 24 hours a day. Also, remember to notify your bank that you will be overseas if you intend to use a debit card.

Once you pay for the plane ticket to Thailand a few more days in Thailand won't cost you that much more money.

Enjoy yourself in Thailand.

Whatever you decide on... go slow. Breathe. You'll get more out of your experience if you don't rush all the time...
