Hi there,
I am confused with the mapping system: when editing the location and typing Simpson Bay it gives that option as text, it also show on the map that location but just above the text are the coordinates showing Marigot, St Martin (the french side).
I think the problem with editing was due to an issue I've been working on related to sessions not carrying across properly. I think I've finally got that problem done and dusted. I just tested the uploading and it redirected as it should.
As for the locations, this is due to the way we assign names to the locations.
We rely on Yahoo/Flickr to provide the location based on the latitude longitude provided by yourself. If Flickr's information is incorrect, then it can happen that they name it the wrong way.
The initial text input where you type the name of the location is on the other hand handled by Google. Their autocomplete is simply far superior to anything else out there.
So the process roughly goes like this.
1. You type in Smuggler's Cove.
2. Google recognizes that and tells us what the lat/lon of that location is.
3. We contact Flickr to find out what location they have mapped to this lat/lon.
4. Flickr provides us with a location name plus a unique locationID.
The reason we want to use flickr is because we want to have their locationID (woeID). This way, we can group photos much better on the site.
So instead of someone having a locationID matched to their photo for say "Fitzroy, Melbourne, Australia", the locationID we get is for "Melbourne, Australia". We still have an exact latitude longitude, but we don't have the precise address-level location name.
Hope that explains it. Somewhat convoluted. Safe to say we couldn't find a perfect solution and sometimes Flickr is letting us down with their responses. But we do think it is the best option right now.
Aha, ok, that perfectly explains is Peter!
Thanks a lot
