Kauai is one of the islands (like Maui and Molokai) that is still fairly unspoiled. It has some great spots to visit, such as Waimea Canyon (deeper than the Grand Canyon), the Fern Grotto, and lots of great golf courses and beaches.
But there are lots of great hotels there--and a very reasonable prices--so a rental is not a necessity by a long shot.
Kauai is warm year round and it is an amazing island. They call it the Garden island for a reason! lol. In the past when I went to Kauai I rented with XXXXX. They were so helpful and they have tons of rentals all over the island! Good luck and safe travels!
