3 Weeks in SE Asia- HELP!

Hello All! Two friends and I are travelling to SE Asia for 21 days. We are confused as the best and most fulfilling way to plan this trip. Any help would be SOOO appreciated!!!

Hi, This is a very good site...

http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm

I would say spend the whole time in Thailand. Save Cambodia for another trip. Sounds like you have enough to do in Thailand to keep you occupied for 3 weeks...

'sheeed

yeah, that is a lot to try to do in a little time. Once you hit the beach in Thailand, 21 days can fly by without you even knowing it, trust me! I'd stick to Thailand and plan on Cambodia for another time.

Here are a few bits of advice I can give
-the overnight train from BKK to Chain Mai is a good way to go. It is not expensive, saves you a hotel night and is pretty comfortable. I have done both 1st and 2nd class and 1st is worth the extra few dollars if you can. If you go 2nd, keep anything of value in your bunk with you.

-in Chaing Mai we did an all day elephant camp. There are a couple of them and there are ads all aver town. It is a splurge and kind of touristy, but so much fun!! Oh, and speaking of touristy, I ended up going to the Tiger Kingdom in Chain Mai because my nephew wanted to go - I thought I was to above it all - it was awesome.

-you'll spend a lot less money in Northern Thailand than southern.

-east street food. Its good. Its cheap. Just look for the stall with the most people in line, that is the one the locals think is best and that is the one that the food hasn't been sitting around all day.

-avoid the ferry the day after the full moon party. All it take is one person seasick and everyone else with a hang-over - well, you can guess. Its not pretty.

Diving on Koh Tao is cheap! are you certified? Most dive shops will put you up for free if you take your Open Water course with them. Big Blue Divers will give you a free dorm bed every day you dive with them. But I found them to be just to big- too many people. I like diving with Seashell Divers better. Both these are on Sariee Beach

take a look at travelfish.org a lot of good information on SE Asia. Especially if you want to try out some of the lesser known islands.

Oh I just thought of something else, if you are planning on Kho Tao right after or before the full moon party, you aren't alone. So it's not a bad idea to book your accommodation/dive course in advance.

Sounds like i lot to do in that little amount of time, I'd take peoples advice and try and cover just northern and southern thailand.. how much budget you taking for them 21 days?

Thanks for all the great advice!! I was told by many that 21 days will only be enough to cover Thailand - my friends are adament about going to Thailand AND Cambodia - will try to change their minds.

As for Southern Thailand are there many things to see or is it mainly a beach area?

We were planning on having $1200 for the 3 weeks. Does this seem sufficient?

All comments are greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

1200 for 3 weeks for 3 people might be stretching it, if its 1200 each then its fine. Thailand is cheap, but you need to plan for the fact that all of the places you want to go are touristy and charge a bit more, also, you plan to fly so tickets will be 60-100 bucks one-way on air asia if you book kinda late. if its 1200 each, then it should be enough though. also, keep in mind, drinks in thailand are not too cheap, especially in bkk. at RCA, expect to pay 3-4 dollars a bottle of beer or 5 bucks a mixed drink. similar to US prices....
