This is dry tropical season along Pacific Coasts of Southern Mexico and Central America, rainy season on the Caribbean (Atlantic) coasts may vary a bit however from December through March there is little rain nor stormy weather in all but a few remote areas. Central America, except for Costa Rica, is in the infancy of development of travel, tourism and hospitality services, so in high seasons such as
Christmas/New Years Dec. 15 to approx. 7 January there exist few vacancies for budget rooms, and international buses are always full of travellers, foreign visitors, locals and dual citizen nationals who live abroad and are on vacation, also Semana Santa, Holy Week (March or early April) is no time to travel to Central america without reservations, if backpacking on a very low budget or stYING AT 3 OR 4 sTAr resort hotels, try to contact your target estblisment in advance, especially popular hostals or even mid price hotels, there are many low priced hospedajes in cities and travel destinations that may be overpriced for services they offer and some are not clean. If any place has neither safe nor lock box for your valuables, do not stay there, unless overnight in an emergency.
