I know a few people that have stayed in hostels for months, but it's probably cheaper to find a flat and share it with a few other backpackers. There tend to be notices up on the noticeboards in hostels both offering beds in apartments, or of others looking for the same! I paid 110AUD per week back in 2000, but budget more around 250 per week (for a room shared with one other person) to be safe... there will probably be cheaper options though.
When my friend went to Sydney then he stayed in the Shangri-La hotel. He said that it’s a nice hotel.

Lol, hardly cheap though...
thanks, does anyone have anymore reccommendations for places to stay? I hear YHA Sydney Central is very good, realitively expensive to in comparison to others!
Also can anyone give me advice on wheres best to get a job. I assume the city centre for lots of bars ect, looking for this kind of work and admin type work!
cheers

Hey Sean, don't worry too much. I'm in Sydney at the moment and have my own room just outside the city centre for 180 a week - there are cheaper options if you share the room with someone else...
You can find the typical backpacker jobs by just walking through the city, it's gonna be harder to find an office job. Have a look at www.gumtree.com.au, they have ads both for accommodation and jobs.
Thanks Sara, you sound as if you have a good place there, can you name any wee areas outside the city that i could look at for accommodation, me and 2 others would like to share.
i shall do that about gumtree sounds decent. do you work backpacking jobs or what? bars and restaurats i take it?
thanks for the advice
