Travelling to Aus...how and when to tell my boss!help!!

I think it's pretty much impossible to give meaningful advice here without knowing a lot more about your job; how indispensable / unique your position is, what type of person your boss is, if you want to come back to this job after those two months, etc.

Still, my inclination would be to try and give at least 4 months notice, so your boss has plenty of time to find ways to cover your absence. He should appreciate that a whole lot more than he'd be upset by you going away for such a long time.

yeah, as Sander stated, we would need to know a whole lot more.
By the sounds of it you plan on going back to the job if you can. It would take a very understanding boss and an extremely flexible position to leave for 2 months, but hey.....you might be in that position!

I left my last job in September...I had originally told them well in advance I was going away for a month but then I handed my notice in a week before leaving because I had been bored for a long time in it and I don't stay bored in life...it's too damn short! ha

And I have only been in my current job 6 weeks but I have already booked off 2 weeks in June. What they don't know is that I am going across the world that day and I won't be returning. I am just booking it as holidays so it will take me towards another pay day whilst I am away! haha.

but hey.....I don't want my job when I get back! ha

Simple answer, do you want to go back there when you go home ?

If so be honest, and give notice but be prepared to loose your job. employers want people to work and not to take large amounts of time off, especially if they are new employees and don't have enough annual leave or long service leave coming.

Remember your boss is here to run a business, and no matter how good you may think you are in your work, when it comes to business there is no loyality.
