ireland or south america

Hi Im looking to buy a camera for bringing travelling but just wondering are they any cheaper to buy in south america than they would be at home in Ireland

Hey Kier,

A friend of mine was relieved of her camera whilst we were in Rio. When looking for a new one the prices seemed compatible to home, if not a little more expensive - it was the same in Argentina. Where will you be heading? What level camera are you looking at?

You will probably find the best price somewhere on line, and just order it at home, although duty free may have a few treats in store.

Regards
Mike

Prices in South America for electrical/ cameras are higher than Ireland.

You might pick up a good deal at Dublin Airport though if you're willing to chance it.

My camera, Nikon S8000, bought it on sale in Dublin for 215 Euro down from 300, Jan'11.
Saw it in Dublin Airport just before I flew out of Dublin Airport in Feb'11 for 190 Euro.

My camera was stolen in Peru last year, replaced it for similar price from a camera shop in La Paz.
Was lucky with the prices I found it for, generally though prices for cameras are dearer in S America.

I bought one cheap online from eBay, from an American company. I got it within a week.

B and H photo video has a branch in Brazil, you may want to contact them and see about mail order to IR or pick up in Brazil
they have most any camera you could want at decent prices.
best,

South America is fine. Just as long as you're sure that you're getting it from an authorized dealer/supplier. Never sacrifice quality over the price.
