That's a tough one to answer, as Hoi An is full of good places. The Secret Garden is a little different and looks very special. I have walked past, but not eaten here. It is hidden on one of the side streets off of Le Loi Street - just ask anyone for directions (center of town).

You can reserve table at Hai's Scout for Red Bridge restaurant.
Red bridge restaurant is approx 20 mins away from town and is on the side of the river.
Good place for a birthday dinner (you can check Red Bridge Cooking School and Restaurant from Google)
hi there we foudn a great little place on the river from called cafe 69 i think, (the house number of the building is 69 if you wondered)
its a tiny local place which also runs small cooking classes which are great value, the food is authentic vietnamise and secret recipes that you can't learn on the classes! the food is amazing especially the set menus. its a very old taty place which has been in the same family for generations. they love cooking good food not chasing tourist trade so check it out.
I'm so glad to hear that Cafe 96 (is it 69 or 96?) is still good. I haven't been there for close to 2 yrs, but I also thought it was great.
Well, I have been to Hoi An and there are so many restaurant their ... But normally, when you get into Hoi An old streets, you have to buy some kind of ticket, at that time, you should ask the ticket seller about the Hoi An map which contain all the good restaurant their.

not at all compulsory, I've never purchased these tickets.
