Evening all,
It is next to impossible and certainly much more $$$$$ than air! Why not take a few short hops to LA instead of one long one? If you're in Europe, fly to Iceland, then Canada or the US East Coast, and then California - yes, it will also cost more. Some airlines are quite comfortable these days - I suggest Air New Zealand from LHR to LAX.
Agreed totally with above.
Look at short flights en-route (of your choice) with air travel agents. Not travel agents - but 'Air' travel agents.
ones that deal only with flights.
It's possible to get a flight from anywhere to anywhere. OK - on many occasions you'll have to change en-route, but that's all the fun of it.
I know where you're coming from though.
Instead of (say) Stansted to K.L. and onward to Oz, you'd prefer (again - just a suggestion) Manchester-Turkey-India-Singapore etc. It can all be done on relatively cheap routes, but takes a lot of planning ahead and of course there is the visa thing to look at to. Can you pass through without one, is there a minimum fee for just a 4 hour stop-over etc.?
One question to ask you is.... Where do you see the line between short-haul and long-haul, with medium-haul in between?
Hi Guys
thanks very much for the replies, and yeah i agree with you both.
the main prob is i have to be in oz for a wedding so have no choice but to make it from there to the states. but yeah i didn't think of using india then onto singapore.
i think the only option is as many short flights as possible but then at some point a long haul is innevitable. i'd really struggle with anything over 7 hours, i became the worlds worst flyer after a re directed flight to cuba took 14 hours, i have never been the same since and would do anything to avoid them basically!
flying bob - your right to raise the visa question too, is something i will need to look into.
thanks again and if anything else comes to mind please shout out!
cheers
