I arrive in Brazil a few weeks ago and was worried about the same thing - I had a ticket into Rio and out of Santiago, Chile. There's no need to worry though, nobody checked it and it seems that everyone who travels here is doing pretty much the same thing.

No one checks, unless you stay in one place a long time and require to go to Immigration Offices to extend your visa or time of stay, then they ask you for solvency, proof you are able to support yourself in the country for extra months of stay, usually an International Credit Card.. Coming and going as tourist no one checks, want you to spend your $$$$$ or euros in their country!!!!!
