Was also thinking about going to Marrakesh and wanted some thoughts fro travellers who have been there on key tourist places as well as the lesser known areas to visit.

To Brians RTW: Trains in Spain are reliable, don't worry about that. They are on time and comfy. Check www.renfe.es (english version available) for tickets.

To willturner: Where are you staying in Spain? You can find Hotel Ibis in some cities. It's a 2** with good prices and good service.

And from where do you want to come to Portugal, Spain or Morroco?

Re Marrakech. For me the highlight of the city is the Djemaa el Fna square and the souk. In the mornings you can get great fresh oranje juice from the stallholders there and in the evenings the food stalls are great. Other Places in Morocco I recomend highly are Essaoira, Ait Bennadou , Todra Gorge and the Atlas mountains.

If you have time I recomend you get the ferry to Morocco from Tarifa in southern Spain, if not there ar cheap flights direct to Marrakech from Barcelona and Madrid.

As mentioned the trains in Spain are good. If you want to use the fast AVE trains its worth buying in advance to get a discounted fair.

I like Madrid. Madrid is full of green spaces and parkland; in central Madrid the largest park is Parque del Retiro, spreading out to the north-east of Atocha Railway station. It is very beautiful place.
