emigrating to Asia

ned zero 9 has indicated that this thread is about Asia

Having lived in China, and worked for both Koreans and Chinese employers, I'd say, "Go to Korea." My colleagues say it is easier for a first job. If you can do a $300 U.S. course through International TEFL (find them through the partner site of tefl.com - something like "compare course.com" or "find courses.com") You can do it online, while on the dole and you will be doing yourself a huge favor for the rest of your life. I'm not kidding, nor exaggerating. Good luck!

Brian,
If at all possible, get the TEFL course done before embarking on your teaching career. I did meet some guys in Phnom Penh that were teaching English w/o all the degrees. The pay was not great, but they were making a living. If you do not have the TEFL credentials, Cambodia might be a place to start.

Good luck with your planning.

Korea is a great place for making money by teaching esl. -snip- Good luck.

I just sent you a PM about Vietnam

Malaysia is really fascinating especially Kuala Lumpur. We went sightseeing a lot and stayed at one of the really luxurious hotels in Kuala Lumpur where we could rejuvenate.

Righto. cheers all for your input reckon ill look into the online tefl course. does anyone know how basic or advanced i should go for, is there a minimum that employers look for, or does it vary

regards

Ned,
Not sure if you have this , but it might be helpful. Dave set it up for all those who want to teach English overseas. Another guy, the has taught English in BKK for many years. He has some helpful advice as well. Good luck.

Go to Korea. I have been here for 2 years and the money is the best you will make doing this job. TEFL is not needed here. Loads of jobs, you will find one easily. The school will pay for your flight and give you an apartment to live in for free. Food is amazing also! While you are here you can save a lot of money and then do your TEFL if you want to go to another country. I save about £700 per month and I am married and my wages pays for both of us.
