Hello everyone,
The beaches on Raro are just fine I spent 10 or 11 days there in 2006 and wearing shoes definitely didn't come to mind! We stayed at a vacation rental in the Titikaveka area of Rarotonga, but I'd probably recommend Muri or Vaimaanga just as much (Muri if you want some kind of nightlife and easier access to shops). I don't seem to have uploaded many photos of the actual sand from that trip, but if you look at , and click on the Show on Map link, you'll get an idea of where we were staying.
One thing to watch out for there is the rips where the channels are in the reef. While we were there someone out on a snorkelling trip died after being dragged out by one of these. There's 4 or 5 of them around the island, but they are pretty well marked. Apparently they claim the lives of a handful of tourists every year. Out fishing one day I was walking near one while the tide was going out and they are VERY VERY powerful.
