Anyone here ever made it to the Easter Island. I'm planning a trip in SA. I made a bit of research on the internet and the flight to get to the island is quite expensive (700$ US)
I went to Easter Island on a RTW ticket, so basically got there for free. Maybe my expectations of it were too high, but I found the visit to be ultimately disappointing; being there was exactly as I'd had expected it from the numerous pictures I'd seen. There was no sense of mystery, nothing exciting or unexpected - I felt I was getting the exact same experience every single other person who'd been there before me had had, with nothing truly unique to be experienced.
I do know other people who've absolutely loved their visit to Easter Island, and for whom the experience was transformative, so YMMV.
And yeah, if not going on a RTW ticket, then $700 is about the best you can expect to find for flights there. :/
