Have a deep desire to go live in Thailand and make money online or teaching english or maybe export. If anyone is currently doing this, can you drop me a line and keep me inspired.
Well, I haven’t done it in Thailand, I’ve done it in Central America but I think the idea is the same. Learn a trade: Bake bread, make energy –bars, prepare salad/barbecue / chili dressing, make cheese (2 Israeli girls making that in Bangkok), you get the idea: Something that can support you and set you apart, because you will most likely will not get hired as a Bar tender or waiter. First off, the wages is nothing and secondly the locals get priority for un-skilled jobs.
I developed 3 main routs: Sales person, secretary, and waiter-bar / kitchen work.
I sold diamonds and high end watches in the Caribbean, (English speaking cliental & the company took care of the work permit), If you have sales experience (and customer service) then its requires at all the tourist destinations/ beautiful places.
Open your own place: ( or even your own cart) Pizza is always in, selling sushi or sandwiches to offices at lunch, be a vender, start small and aspire higher.
Import/export, although I imagine it’s a lot of permits and more investment $$ wise.
If you are under 50 you will have a hard time staying in Thailand permanently. If it is just a few months you will need a proper visa. The visa you can get depends on the passport you travel with. Without a work permit, which is difficult to get, you will be working illegally. If all you want is a warm area in Asia Malaysia is easier to stay in for long periods.
Easier to get a teaching position than other type jobs but teaching doesn't pay a lot. Retirees over 50 with verifiable retirement checks and/or sufficient money in Thai banks have it a little easier to stay for years.
This forum has information on visas and work permits. Some posters also work in Thailand.
Ajarn is a helpful website for teachers in Thailand:
If you haven't been to Thailand visit first and talk to some of the expats living there.
Good luck.
There are various Thai websites operated by expats. They have loads of info relating to the questions your asking.
Steve is right. There are many in Thailand. I went to both the in Pattaya when I was there regularly. Free to join online and you can contact guys that have lived in Thailand for many years. You should be able to get good info w/o leaving your house. This has taught English in BKK for many years and has a wealth of info on all aspects of living and working in Tland. Good luck with your planning.
