Layover in Taipei. What can I see?

I have an 8 1/2 hour layover in Taipei. That's an awfully long time to sit in an airport, but it seems like the airport is quite a ways out of town. Is it worth trying to get into the city and see something? I've always thought Taipei 101 was really cool and it'd be fun to see it in person, but I'd also hate to only spend a few minutes there before having the rush back to the airport. Is this enough time?

It's about 20 kms to the downtown area so not long if traffic is OK. From what I remember, there's a movie studio you can walk around (not much there). Nearby is a large museum (which reputedly has 13 times as much stock as the huge amount on display) and a large stamp museum. Also the Chiang Kai-Shek memorial park and hall. The centre of Taipei is fairly easy to walk around though there is rather a lot of it

The day after the Chinese New Year, expect most things to be shut, I would think. There will possibly be parades and such.
