Just finished 'A Walk in the Woods' while on holiday last week. It is a inspiring book and sounds like a real challenge.
I take it you will be taking the same route i.e. south to north, would have imagined Maine would be cold in March to do north to south?
Good luck for the hike i am sure you will enjoy it, see some awesome views and find out quite a bit about yourself.

Yes, i will be doing south to north, i know it is the most popular, but then i have heard many people preferring southbound.

I am planning my NOBO to start March 1, 2012! I know its kind of early, maybe I'll see on the trial.

Oh and A Walk in the Woods was a great book...one of the reasons to inspire me to hike the whole trail... I have dont mostly all of GA, and the Smokey Mt. NP and I am in love with the trail! I never thought I would EVER do the entire thing.
After meeting some good people, and realizing how much I really wanted to do it...the decision was easy to plan a 2012 trip. I am so excited to hike the trail and I know it will be the experience of a lifetime! I have hike the trail before...many times, but only in sections, so I am new myself, so please feel free to reach me with anything that might be of help to me.
