You will probably see a group tour as a thrown out money, time and opportunity.

Yes, you will be ripped off on the first day. By the second day, you'll be smarter. But it will be still way much cheaper than joining a group tour where you are constantly a target by touts.

I'd just say when travelling alone BE Smart, don't go out in dodgy areas at night. Keep your money etc in a money belt. Tours are a great idea, we did a 6 week trip in Africa with 5 singles we all had a great time but and it's a big but it can be expensive.
