Does an international prepaid cell phone plan exist?

When I travel to the UK from the US, I'd like to call home. I know there are a lot of international cell phone plans which require a contract, so you're locked in.

Last year when I was in the UK I used Lebara, mainly to call locally and home to Australia, and found that the prepaid amounts for internet access, texts and phone usage was pretty fair.

I just got a prepaid SIM card when I got there, and it was all easy, as my contacts were already in my phone, and I added new UK ones as needed.

You just need to be sure that your phone is not locked to your network at home so you can swap SIM cards.

Last time I used Vodafone in India and I am very happy with their international calling services.
