East Coast of Australia

Hello all,

Hello Rhianne!
I've been researching a similar trip in June 2013. From what I'ved researched the must see stops include The Great Barrier Reef, Melbourne, Fraser Island, and Airlie Beach/The Whitsundays. Are you planning on working along the way? From what I've heard the time you are heading there is a great time to find work, especially in Cairns with their warm winter starting in May/June. Good luck finding out more information!

Hi Rhianne & Tyler

I'm planning a similar trip Sydney to Cairns and possibly Darwin from January 2013 onwards. I've booked with a company in Sydney and have skyped them a few times to get the info. Apparently there are lots of jobs. I'm planning to find bar work as I have some experience in a pub (working, i assure you, not just drinking). You need a Responsible Alcohol Certificate in Oz which seems a bit strict to me, but i've arranged it anyway so I can work as I travel.

Apparently, farm jobs are common in Oz, so I'll probably give that a try too. Fruit picking is popular but I hear its hard work.

Swimming with dolphins is on my bucket list too. I've got it arranged already for my first week!!!! Soooooo excited! I'm booked into a place with a pet kangaroo and loads of koalas!!! Literally, can't wait!!

If you want to meet up in Sydney let me know. I'm staying at the WakeUp for the first few days, from 7 Sept, then doing the UltimateOz trip for just over a week, then back to Sydney to get work.

Ah sounds fantastic what you both are doing! Are you going over with a working visa?

Unfortunately I don't have time to work - as much as I would love to! I'm actually going on to travel Asia for 5 months after OZ so there wouldn't be much point and I'm saving like crazy at the moment so I can afford it all and not have to get my hands dirty with labour :p

kimboA where are you swimming with dolphins?! It sounds like you have everything planned out very well Are you going alone?

And Tyler thank you for your suggestions! Barrier Reef is definitely on my list aswel! A trip to the East Coast would be pointless without visiting there haha :D Have either of you been to Australia before?

Rhianne

Hi Rhianne

I'm so jealous, all play and no work. How long are you travelling for in total, more than a year?

Yeah, i'm going alone, it was daunting at first but now I have it all sorted I can't wait. I've booked the UltimateOz arrival package which includes the dolphin trip, plus sydney harbour cruise, sandboarding, beach party etc.... sooooo excited : ) When are you getting to Oz?

Hi Guys,

Im heading out to Aus in Feb 2013. Starting of in Brisbane. Are you all of on a year visa and are you all working, except for Rhianne. You are so lucky you wont have to work.

I think im mainly going to look at fruit picking, as i know it is popular but back breaking work.
Kimboa- you say you need a certiface to work in a bar. Do you book the course before you leave or you just arranging it when your out there. Is bar work hard? Ive always been on the recieving end, so dont know how difficult it is too pull a good pint!

I just cant wait to get over there now, hopefully these next few months will pass by quickly :-)

Hey guys,

I think its very adventrous what you are doing,
I have recently moved to Brisbane and have travelled up and down the north east queensland coast for my job and i recommend you check out Byron Bay backpacker central, Gold Coast shopping, Tangalooma dolphins and whales, relaxation, Fraser Island, Hervey Bay, Tannum Sands, AJ Hackett Cairns-bungee jumping, Whitsundays. All these places have great scenery and amzing views..

I have also worked as a security guard in one of the biggest nightclubs in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane and still have a few connections if anyone is keen, i can try and sort something out..as far as working in the bar goes, im pretty sure you will need certification of competency and a Responsible Services of Alcohol statement of attainment but dont quote me on it..

Hope you guys enjoy your time in Australia

Hi Kimbo,

I'm travelling for 6 months hopefully, doing 1 month in OZ and 5 months travelling Asia. I've decided to begin with Australia as it's a great starting point to meet backpackers like me hopefully with the same travelling intentions. Yours sounds amazing! How much has that cost you (if you don't mind saying)? Do you get grouped with other people? I want to get to Australia in March 2013

Chelsea, I'll be on a travelling visa - it sucks I can't do OZ for longer but I won't be able to afford going for more than a month! I've heard fruit picking is seriously tough but the experience should be well worth it Hope you have a fantastic time!

ice_tua, thanks for that info, I'll definitely check those places out! Lucky you for having a job that allows you to travel! What do you do for work? And how long have you been living in Brisbane for? I have family who have a farm a few miles outside of Brisbane so will hopefully be crashing there for a couple days Would you saying travelling the East Coast in a month is do-able?

Thanks all for your great input, it's very much appreciated!!!

Rhianne
