Hi everyone, I am wondering what is the"best" major city to live in England for a 20 year old going to work.
What are the pluses and minuses of living in the Northern cities and what are the pluses and minuses for living in the South.
I have never been to England before but I will be moving there shortly and would like to hear from anyone who has lived or who lives there currently.

I'm from England and I live in the North East. I have visited/have friends who live in Cities all over England and I'll give you some info on some of them.
But first of all, I have to say, England isn't a fantastic country to come live in atm. There are hardly any jobs here, lots of people on JSA and I can't wait to get out of here if I'm honest!
But if you are like me and when you find somewhere you would love to live nothing anyone says will change your mind .
First off, the north is generally a friendlier place than the south. I notice a HUGE difference in my city to ones like London. Also, it is a lot cheaper to live up north than down south. There are rich and poor in each city but generally speaking the south is a lot wealthier. However, the weather up north is worse and a lot less predictable. You've also got the advantage of the underground if you choose somewhere like London. It depends if you want to drive or use public transport for which city you want to live in.
Here are my views on some cities;
Manchester: I am not a huge fan of Manchester, it's grim and it will most likely rain everyday. There are some good shopping centres but that's about it for me.
Liverpool: I quite like Liverpool, the nightlife is good and it has some good shops and things to do. The only thing that puts me off is the accent haha.
London: I can't deny that London is a great city, there's always something going on and the diversity is amazing. The underground is a great way to get around if you can't drive. However, the people really aren't that friendly. For me, it's too touristy but it depends which area you live in I guess.
Sheffield: I love Sheffield, I think it's a lovely city. People are friendly and it has a good nightlife too. It is one of the prettier cities I'd say.
Birmingham: It's okay, nothing spectacular but a good city to live in.
Newcastle: I'm never quite sure what to make of it. It's got some great sights and shops and I've heard it's really nice to live in. But it always seems quite studenty to me.

Haha if i'm being completely honest Google is probably right. Middlesborough isn't a great city. It's got high crime rates and quite a bad drug problem. It's been in the worst city list quite a few times and I think it has been voted worst for this year! Although, I live in one that is always on the worst city list but I live in a little village near it and it's really nice. I just try to avoid the bad parts but I can still understand why it gets the reputation it does.
