Bit of advice

Hello there, Im 23 awaiting the arrival of my renewed passport and want to get things into place to start booking flights, at the minute I'm thinking heading to Indonesia for a couple of months to then drop into Oz down the east coast work for a while as well as travel and then possibly NZ. My main worry that really gets to me is money..... that age old problem... I was hoping people could help me out with approximately how much should I save etc and cheaper months to travel things like that.

AUD $75-80/day is an average baseline daily budget for most backpackers for Australia (dorm rooms, public transport, supermarket food, occasional cheap activity). It's easy to spend many more times that if you go out and do lots of expensive activities, but if you watch your finances, then this should be quite feasible to stick to.
AUD $5000 is the minimum to save before going, as that's what's required to be eligible for a WHV (as almost everyone spends at least that) - but the more the better, depending on how much you plan to work and how much you plan to travel. (Also note that you need some serious buffer, as work might take a bit of time to find.)

December-February are high season in both Australia and New Zealand (not in the north of Australia though, as it's the wet season there, then) - so more expensive. New Zealand gets noticeably cheaper from June through August (winter; lots of "stay 3 nights, pay 2" deals at hostels); Australia not so much (that I remember).
New Zealand tends to be some ~15-20% cheaper than Australia overall, so a good place to spend your Australian-earned money.

Im considering mid April time now.
