I live on Ohio and travel frequently. usually drive to bordering states during the weekends but am about to get my pilots license and looking for other places within a few states. any ideas? ill be flying alone for the first couple weeks (solo flight requirements) but then will mainly bring my girlfriend and 8 year old daughter.

There are so many great places you can get to within a few states. Wow. where to start? So if I understood right, you want great spots that you could fly to a few states away?
Depending how far you want to go and what time of year.
5 states over you can get to Colorado. that's like the ultimate.
Michigan would be great for first trips... lake michigan dunes are really special, great fresh water swimming.
Niagra falls?
New Hamshire in autumn would be killer. Just astounding beauty.
Smoking moutains wouldn't be too far either.
I'll wait to give more suggestions till I'm sure I udnerstood you question.
