My husband and I are looking to volunteer independently and
if any one has suggestions about volunteering. We want to do this
alone and avoid any large organizations. We are looking to help the
needed in areas where no organizations are but welcome volunteers.
The obvious choice for this is Eastern Europe. Question is: What languages do you speak? What kind of volunteer work are you interested in? Any job qualifications you might have? Are prepared to organise everything yourself, load things on a van or truck and go? If you are more specific, ideas might come more easily to us.

Hello,
I know this is an old post...but I'm a full-time volunteer looking to find an opportunity in Eastern Europe. I've volunteered in Israel (2yrs humanitarian aid, security for 4.5 yrs, and the last and most fulfilling is working with mentally and physically handicapped adults and I did that for 4.5 years).
If you do have contacts who need a passionate, dedicated volunteer, I eagerly await your response.
Thanks again,
James
James,
Would you be willing to find an opportunity through a volunteer placement organization? Otherwise, it may be difficult to find an opportunity in Eastern Europe that you can trust. You'll pay a little more, but it maybe be worth a little more peace of mind.
Cheers,
Steve
