I was just at the website of the . Like most countries, they have reports on every country letting travellers know any health, crime and safety concerns, entry and exit requirements and other interesting and cool information.
We have a "central bureau of statistics" in the Netherlands, which published last year. (If anyone is really interested, the downloadable PDF there has English explanations of the various graphs.)
Roughly 20% of the people in the Netherlands only vacationed in the country itself, 30% only outside the country and 30% vacationed both inside and outside the country. (The remaining 20% is either unknown or didn't vacation at all, I don't know which.)
The vacations abroad are split up in all kinds of ways, but in 2005, the most popular countries for long vacations were:
1. France (16%)
2. Germany (12%)
3. Spain (11%)
4-6. Turkey/Belgium/Austria (7%)
7. Italy (5%)
8. Greece (4%)
9-10. UK/Czech Republic (3%)
I don't know if I should interpret this as dutch people being boringly incapable of looking outside familiar Europe when travelling, or just that there's so many good things to see in Europe that travels there simply dwarf all other travels. It's probably a mix of both.
From the same PDF, people from abroad coming to the Netherlands mostly come from these countries:

2. Germany
3. USA
4. France
5. Italy
6. Spain
7. Japan
8-9. Canada/Denmark
10. Switzerland

I'd say, in Quebec, the number 1 tourist destination must be Cuba, and France is probably further up the list than on the Canada-wide report. I worked with one woman who'd been to Cuba 15 times in 8 years!
My guess is that in the USA, the #1 tourist destination is, surprise, the USA. I know we catch a lot of grief for this, but your question is about where "people in your country go on vacation"; not those who actually go "traveling", of which I think our numbers are increasing.
Just guessing, but I would just assume it goes something like:
USA
Mexico
Canada
Europe (sorry, that's not a country, but I can't be bothered to guess at percentages)
Australia
Iraq (mostly soldiers, though very much not on vacation).

I am staying here in Malaysia.
I see that lots of Malaysians love to travel to : China,Thailand,South Korea,Japan,Australia,UK,Singapore,Hong Kong.......
Like Sander already said considering the dutch, it's like with other countries as well: people go to the countries closest by and further destiantions are less popular. Maybe because of the unknown, but also because of the price of travelling to destiantions further away. And some people don't like long flights as well.
Hopefully it stay this way, as meeting dutch people (or even hearing them) is not really someone should fancy.....

well, most of chilean people go to the crowded beaches of central chile (near valparaiso) in the summer, some go north to la serena and some to the incredible south (i loooove the south!!)
there's a good amount of people who spend their holiday in brazil, the caribbean, argentina and mexico (it's a good time to travel for us, dollar price is low )
Well, most of Iranian people go to the beaches of the Caspian Sea in north part of the country.
Most Scots, and Brits in general, will spend their holidays around the Mediterranean. Spain was always the classic destination. Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Morrocco etc. are all popular choices as well.
And as prices come down, places like Florida have become very popular.
For the wealthier, the Caribbean is the destination of choice for holidays, somewhere like New York for a long weekend's shopping but again, prices are coming down and more people are able to afford such trips.
