For possible free cash get your girlfriend to make a appointment with the inland revenue and get them to do a check on a possible tax rebate i.e. did she earn under £6 grand last year and pay tax (can claim for last 6 years) if she did she can claim it all back. I went in and came out with £1000 pretty good hey. Also just before you both plan to leave the UK go to inland revenue and they will give you a form to fill in the form basically pays you back any tax (excluding national insurance) you have paid from the new tax year to the time you depart the country so like me could be another £300-£400 in the bank
I think if I am right you need £2500 each in cash in the bank plus a return ticket booked or £3000 with 1 way ticket thats for working holiday visa for tourist visa 3 month a basic is £1000 a month some can live on loads less other loads more (planning to work or stay over 3 months you would need working holiday visa so would need the £2500 plus return ticket)
For cheap flights try Air Asia was the cheapest I have found
i think all you need is 2250 NZ dollars to prove. 5 thousand £ is too much. then again, it is never too much to prove to the immigration officer in NZ
