Thailand 1st Oct, travelling alone! am i mad?

hey all,

Hey Andy, I was in the same boat in January. Went to Thailand for a month. Loved it, had so much fun, and is very easy to meet people. You will see. Unlike certain places (caio-where i am right now), Thailand is easy to meet people! When you get to the bangkok airport I suggest heading to Kho San Road. get a place there. stay for about 2-3 nights and drink lots!! Have fun, check out some of the malls they have thereg show... and tour around for a little bit. Ride a tuk tuk, and goto a ping pong show. The tuk tuk and taxi drivers will try to stop at certain places on the way to a destination, or give you a ridiculous price for a cab.. low ball them and walk away.. they will bite.

I would say head to the islands man!! thats where the fun is. I had to get outta the city after about 3 days, and head south.. so much fun. I was down in Phuket, Phi Phi island, Krabi, Ko Lanta, Ko Samue - full moon party..
Do hit up a full moon party.. very fun!

I might headerr down to Thailand sometime in the begg of October, not sure where my path is leading right now, but travelling.. in Cairo now. Egypt for the 2 weeks, then climbing Kilimanjaro.

Hi both....I'm heading to Bangkok in Jan and its gonna be my first time travelling and also alone. Is there anywhere you would recommend in particular on Khoa San Road that you are looking at staying at. I'm so excited about going away but being a girl also a bit worried...any advice would be really appreciated!

Hey Andy, Me and the missus will be arriving in Bangkok 4th Oct, sticking around for 2-3 nights before heading down south. Koh san is pretty cool and that's the area we'll be heading for!! So if your still around when we get there, we can meet up for a few changs.....By the way mate, im also from S/S - Small world!!

Kirsty, there's a few good places on koh san, just depends what you really want - you can get some really nice digs for under £10, or if your really on a tight budget less than £3- but very very basic and not the nicest - does me tho!!
Not really sure about girls travelling alone as im not one, but I reckon as long as your really carefull you'll be fine and there's lots of people travelling solo so you will meet many people in the same boat.

Enjoy

I am a mature female and I will be heading out to Thailand shortly. I have done a lot of research re. females travelling alone and have been assured that people are generally very friendly (the natives)and there is no problem interacting with other travellers. The only thing I would impress upon you is to be vigilant. Do not flash the fact that you are a tourist or not familiar with the country. Do not wear flashy jewellery and dont carry shoulder bag where thieves can sntch it on their motor bikes. Disperse your money in different places. Some in shoe some in bag some in bra, for example.

hello fello english friend!!! i moved from u.k to newzealand 7yrs ago bt go home frquently. this time im doing it in style!!!... in ur boat 2, friend let me dwn bt im still eager to do it!!! will b in n.z untill l8 march 2010 the i head 2 america for 2 weeks then on 2 europe for a year, would love to hear frm u!! flights cheap and readi now!!

No need to worry about being a girl alone!!! Not at all, I did my rtw trip 2005/2006, and it was brilliant.

If you wander to the top of Koh San Road, you will see a small statue dead ahead, cross the road, turn right, and go up that lane there...more of the same, but a little quieter...check out accommodations up there...Pra A Thit Road, look for My House Guesthouse, there are others along there, the walls are thin - but reasonably priced at around 150baht a night. I do not have my other journal handy and cannot find the name of the posh hotel I stayed at on that very same street (but up a weeny alley) the second time into Bangkok. But if you do find a tiny alley, go down it, and if you come into a large courtyard, with an open walled hotel, go and have a look see if they have any rooms. They are beautiful, and comfortable, but usually booked up - especially around December.

Don't forget the Chinese New Year coming up. Bangkok especially gets booked up fast!!! In 2006, I ended up spending three nights sleeping on the sofa in this hotel because there were no beds anywhere...!!!

Hi all,

I'm Nina I live in Phuket 7 years and welcome for everyone who want to visit Phuket, need any help can contact me. Nina

I'm a 27-year old Belgian girl, and went to Thailand last year all by myself, because none of my friends had the money to come with or they couldn't get a holiday from work. It didn't stop me. Going alone to Thailand was a bit of a challenge and I liked it.
My mom lives in Thailand, so of course I went to visit her for a few days. After that, I went directly southwards to Koh Samui and had the best time ever! I've met a lot of people, one a Canadian girl who I shared a room with for 7 days. We are still in contact through Facebook.
It's a very easy country to travel through and it's even easier to make new friends!
I'm going by myself again this year, I'll be leaving Belgium the 28th of September and I will be staying in the land of the smiles for 3 weeks!
Don't worry about being alone there, because you won't! You'll have a great time!!!
