Are there some tour operators out there? I just graduated in August and am planning a trip to Thailand. I thought that it would be as easy as it sounded in class but now,the reality is different. Do you guys know how to enable people to see the inportance of trave and join you on a trip? As for the frequent travellors, what insipires you to travel. Personally, I travel for fun and leisure but to some people, it is a waste of time. How do I go about it?
I find with most people you have to be of a particular mind set to see the beauty of travelling. Not everyone has it. I don't have it as much as some, ie, I have life savings which i could use to travel the world, but will most likely use it for something like a deposit on a house.
The vast majority of people seem to like spending their money on crap, needless crap that they don't need. They want something to 'show' for their money, cars, clothes, TVs, etc etc. You have to find like minded friends who realise, although it is very cliche to say, that 'you can't take these things with you' when you die. That's why I value experience much more highly than 'things', material objects.
The hypocrisy of what I've just said between those two paragraphs is perhaps justified by me only spending money on things that are immediately needed from a day to day basis (food, transport), which includes the odd night out with friends (for social reasons), to enable me to afford to travel.
Make them realise that we are only on Earth for a short period of time, we are the only animals who can forsee our own death, therefore we must see what we can in this short time, and the short time in our short lives where we can actually see the beautiful sights (when we are young, and unattached).
If you can't find anyone, do it on your own! You will have an amazing time. That is the advice I got from some of the experienced travellers on here, and I will do it one day (in 2011, my big trip).
In Thailand, you will fall in love with the place. You'll be able to look back on your life and know that have done something meaningful, and not wasted your precious time.

If you are planning to travel to Thailand, best advice that I can give you, don't go to a travel agent / tour operator. They will just book you in a 'shitty' place, charge you way more than you should be paying and stop you from going to another place when you want to. There are a lot of travel guide books and maps, read more and learn more.
Travelling in a total different country and culture from yours will both lead to both pleasure and frustration if you don't know enough, you expected too much and have closed your mind to all possibilities of the trip. But it isn't definitely a waste of time, depends on your sole purpose, I guess. To travel for me is to experience a totally different kind of lifestyle, learning an interesting culture, indulging yourself in the uniqueness of the people, food, transportation and more...
Like si403 posted, travelling isn't for everyone, one should be bold and adventurous enough to take that step, flexible, patient and tolerable to survive, smart and quick-witted to not be ripped off and know what's going on around you especially when you are visiting a country who can't hardly communicate with you in English and you having a hard time communicating with them in their own language.
You'll find a lot of travelers along the way who share the same ideas, and you might even end up travelling with them, just be open and have fun! It's all worth it, I promise you!
I agree with Ajarnj (above). Just book a flight to Bangkok with a rough idea of what you want to do when you are over there. Once you land in Bangkok, get a bus (cheap about and about 40 mins) to the famous KhaoSan Road and you'll find everything you need at your finger tips. Cheap places to stay, food, routes to other places etc etc.
