Hi. I am from Norway and have been to both saltstraumen and lofoten
Saltstraumen is located outside Bodø, a bit away from lofoten. However, to get to Lofoten you will probably fly into Bodø, or pass Bodø by boat. Bodø is quite boring, but could be worth a day to see saltstraumen and Kjerringøy http://www.kjerringoy.no/english/
A great way to see saltstraumen is to do a RIB-SAFARI (very fast boat) from Bodø. You will to go out into the great archipelago and sea outside bodø, they will take you eagle scouting (the very big bird ) and by boad over saltstraumen. The trip is great.
