Im 21 years old, never been abroad before, i know its sad haha! Ihave so many places i want to visit, yet i have no idea where to start. Ive considered both travelling alone and with friends, but to be honest most of my friends have responsibilitys such as children etc which stops them travelling. I would love it if some of you could give me any advice and tips on where to start.
hi hayley, couldn't help but feel sorry for you for not being abroad. not2worry though, you will soon sort that out. there are so many good places you could go. i'm 22 + havn't been to that many places abroad 2 be honest, but i've decided 2 go round the world this year with my mate. i would highly reccomend going 2 your local STA travel branch+chatting with them, all the staff are keen travellers+have been EVERYWHERE! lol. they were a great help to us, gave us loads of advice.+ for under 26's its cheaper!

hi, i'm going to New York for 5days, LA for 17days (renting a car and driving to Las Vegas and San Fran), then to Fiji for 8days, then to Aukland NZ 1month, travelling south to queenstown (skydive+bungy jump), then to OZ for 3months travelling up the east coast and finishing in thailand for 3weeks, thats quite a common route+about 6months in total. are you interested in round the world travel?my flights are £1450 from sta. their website has a RTW section,u checked it out? good value for money.
sounds brilliant, apart from the skydive & bungee jump bit that just sounds majorly scary haha!! im sure your going to have an AMAZING time =) Im deffo planning to visit L.A, looks like there so much to see and do there, i'd especially be interested in seeing the famous hollywood walk of fame =)
yeah i can't wait!! you should do a skydive you will love it! lol. about LA, i'm only going to stay there for about 5days, there actually isn't as much as you would think to do there, after you've done hollywood and a couple beaches, and its expensive. santa monica is a nice area of LA though, there are some not so good areas too lol. most people on this forum suggest going north to san francisco, its a much more interesting city with more to do. how long do you want to travel for? and how many places?
Yea i guess skydiving would be a total adrenaline rush, it would just b getting the courage to actually go through with it and not chicken out haha, have you done it before?? Really?? L.A does look amazing though, its got to be pretty cool to have seen the famous hollywood sign too, bet you end up taking lots of photos =) when do you go on your trip?? Not too sure how long i want to travel for, would depend how quickly i spent my money lol but im wondering whether it might be better for me to travel around europe before i consider bigger places, although i have a massive interest in America for some reason lol. Cant believe your going Vegas, my boyfriend would love to go there but im pretty sure he would end up skint within 24 hours if he was let loose in the casinos haha!!

I'm so happy for you that you're about to start traveling, it's an itch that can be scratched but never killed Since you're asking for advice I have a few thoughts, but of course I don't really know what you're looking for so I may be way off
First off I know what you mean about not knowing where to start, I get that feeling too because there are so many exciting places! Sometimes I feel almost overwhelmed by the choices but then I remind myself that I have my whole life in front of me, and this goes for you since you're only 21. I think about my grandma, she's 82 now and had no option to start traveling at all until she was in her 30s, but since then she's been all over the place and is nowhere near stopping. So you can look at it this way: You may never have gone abroad now, but you have the next 60 years to travel the world! Whatever country you can't visit now, you'll just do it next year, or the year after that, or in 15 years.
Secondly; I see you're interested in the US and I can tell you that it's great, I've visited 7 states and will definitely go again some time to see some more. However, I would suggest you go somewhere a bit more exotic. Go somewhere they don't speak English. It's a challenge but always a fun one to learn how to navigate and manage in a country where you don't speak the language, it gives the experience twice as much depth!
Thirdly, of course I have no idea what your budget is, but I can just speak for myself that I'm almost only looking towards "cheaper" countries to visit. They'll be further away from you so the flight may be more expensive, but once you're there, say in Asia or S-America for example, the cost of living will be lower and it's easier to go budget so it's worth it.
Thailand for example. It's exotic but not too much so for a first-timer, there's a lot of partying there but also incredible sights, culture and nature. Of course that goes for a lot of countries, Thailand is just one example

Yes im also looking for cheaper places to visit especially at first until i get used to the whole travelling thing, until i started looking into it the idea of travelling seemed really scary but after doing research and talking to others i have realised plenty of people share the interest in visiting many places and its not nearly as impossible as i first thought.
How long have you been travelling for? any favourite places??

I dont really recommend visting LA/Hollywood though, it's not really as exciting as it sounds (I've been 4 times). Plus on the walk of fame you get stocked by creepy "actors" dressed up as wonder women, Johnny from Pirates, etc who want you to take a picture with them and then they ask for money. New York is much more exciting! The night life, shopping, restaurants, theater, and other sites are great! Way better than LA. Plus from there you can explore some of the other east coast states (which are all small and close together) which has some beautiful scenery and fun colonial sites. I also recommend the midwest which most visitors skip over. Theres lots of cool things there to explore and learn about like native american culture and history of the wild west! Then you can say you've been somewhere different than most people who visit the US!
