Shikoku Japan

So I have been wanting to go to Shikoku for a long time now to walk the 88 temples and see the sights like the whirlpools in Naruto. I was just wondering if there is a best time of year. How long it would take? How much it would cost? And any other relevant information would be great. Thanks for your help guys.

Spent a few days in Shikoku late September 2007. Visited Tokushima, Iya Valley and Naruto Whirlpools.

Late September was probably ideal for Japan as it wasn't too hot and humid anywhere I went save for Okinawa.
Autumn would also be nice for scenery and the change of season.
LP says that you can do the 88 temples in 30 - 60 days if walking depending on fitness, but you can do the circuit by bicycle I believe.

Staying at the temples shouldn't be too expensive.

I went to the Naruto whirlpools and I have to say they were a total disappointment. I think it pretty much depends how lucky you are on the day with the conditions though, cos I've seen photos of them when they look quite impressive, so I probably just picked a bad day to go.

Thanks you guys,
It seems like I have been wanting to do this forever now its just a short matter of time. Any more advice would be most welcome. Thanks again!
Ben
