English Trip

Hello...Im Migue from Argentina and on May im going to London and Liverpool...i´d appreciatte any help you can provide me!!!Gracias : )

This is a pretty open ended question. I'm american and spent the last year in England before moving in November. As for London, if you are travelling by yourself there is a nice pan-asian restaurant called Cha-Cha Moon on Carnaby Street, which is very central. It is similar to Wagamama, but better food not expensive and a good option for a solo traveller. There are a lot of other good food options (good, not too expensive, good vibe) on Goodge St. and around. For indian food, try Brick Lane. For a good view of the entire city, try the top floor bar/restaurant at the Tate Modern museum...best during daylight hours for the view. For food on the go, you will see "Pret A Manger" all over the place, and it is very good option.

As for sights, Westminster Abbey I think is highly over-rated and very expensive. I would suggest going during an actual service and then just stay long enough to walk around a little. It also has very limited hours and usually closes around 3pm with last entrance at around 2:30 (or something like that).

Liverpool: I spent a weekend there and thought two days was more than enough. It has been revitalized but still has some rough edges. Manchester is just about 45-60 min away and is also a nice place to visit...the downtown is a little more happening than Liverpool.

If you have the time to go west from London before going north to Liverpool and you have a car, I would highly recommend visiting the Cotswold towns. They are really unique and lovely. We travelled all over england and this was really one of the nicest areas. If you go, try to find a nice tea shop that serves Cream Tea (which means scones, clotted cream, jam tea with milk and sugar).

As for pubs, you probably already know that the english frequently drink their beer warm...one way to tell is if the tap is a pump type, than it likely will be warmer than a normal beer tap. Also, try the cider (except not Strongbow which is horrible). Every pub has some cider on offer and it is really good.

Hope that helps.

Hello...
Thanks a lot for your help it meant so much...
it will be the first time i travell abroad and you know although i know i will get some adventure and perhaps i have to face some things unexpected i try to organise my trip as much as it be possible do that i can enjoy everthing.
I have to admitt the only reason to go to Liverpool is due to The Beatles...i really lo ve their music and it will be so touching to be there in that city...

Thanks again!

I’m glad you said you are going to Liverpool, it’s a really interesting city and often overlooked.
I would recommend you visit the docklands, Tate Liverpool and do a ferry across the Mersey, (a bit cheesy but has interesting info about Liverpool’s history)
As you are a fan of the Beatles you have to do the Beatles museum, a bit expensive, but worth it
there are also a number of other museums in this area that are quite interesting (for example the slave museum)

Liverpool has a good nightlife, ask around when you get there where the best places to go are, if you are a music fan, there is lots live music around.
And of course you have to go for a beer in the cavern (legendary Beatles venue), and wonder how it fit in so many people!

For London, the list is really endless, as well as the usual tourist spots, you can always find interesting places and things if you do some exploring
a useful sight is...

Have fun

Hola Gracias por tu respuesta( i had to write down something in my language jeje)
Yes im trying to organize everthing about my trip and i was thinking of going to Liverpool once i get England i mean the first day...i was cheking in that link about a tour that take you grom London to Liverpool and includes many Beatles attractions..its name is Golden Tours...and its near the hostel i will stay...that would be my first step in England(i get glad only when i imagine being there hehe).
I have to admitt im not good at organizing things much less a trip..you know when i was younger than today( help! hehe)i always loved the idea to travel far away from my country and live good experiences and now im so close to reach that dream..but sometimes i feel a bit insecure about the fact i have to organize a loooooot of things..but its ok...
Another important thing...
how much money is recommendable to bring?i will manage with dollars and once in england i will change it into pounds.
My idea is known: Liverpool( beatles tour..buy some things about the beatles)...and visit the famous english monuments...
i dont care about pubs ..dont laugh i dont like beer hehe...i like cider but i guess i couldnt drink cider every night im not used to doing that hehe....

well i hope your replies... and dont think twice if you want to meet an Argentinian on May ...its ok!!!!

Bye

Migue!

Glad you're coming to London Migue, there is so much to do and see and i know that traveling can be very expensive so you'll be glad to know there are plenty of free attractions in London. All major museums in London are free, the most famous being the National History and The British Museums or if you're an art fan you can visit the Tate Modern or Tate Britain, both of which have ever changing displays. Then there are the landmarks to visit everywhere, such as Trafalgar Square and along the south bank. Plus, one of the funnest things to do in London is visit the weekend markets, which are full of people, art, shopping food etc (Try Portobello Road or Camden)

i hope this helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask. When are you visiting?

Claire

[i]Hello--thanks for your reply!!!

Yes i hear dabout the market camdem actually i will stay in a hostel near that market... think thats a good idea ....and i can spend many time visiting and buying things not so expensive in Camdem market..
I m glad that many attractions are for free that s not happen in my country hehe
Well i really appreciatte any help you give me...its very important for me im not used to travelling so far...Argentina is a very nice country to visit and my last 2 trips were in the country (Iguazù Waterfalls and Glaciares)but deep inside i knew this is THE TRIP i always wanted to do...
What about the weather on May?Is it spring isnt it?
I m tired of listening about the bad weather and cloudy days in England jeje

The weather can be good if you're lucky! We're told that the weather this summer should be very hot so in May summer will just be starting so I hope it will be hot and sunny for you. How long will you be in England for? It's a good thing that you will be staying in a hostel as hotels can be very expensive, especially in London. You should try to go to some parks such as Hyde Park or Richmond Park because they're beautiful in the summer.

I would love to go to Argentina, my friend has just come back from travelling around South America and she showed me pictures of the Iguazù Waterfalls. She told me how beautiful they were and that I had to visit them.

You seem very excited so I hope you enjoy your trip. Claire

Hey Claire..thanks for your reply..yes im so excited and a bit nervous i have never benen aborad before..but its ok by me...
What can i say about the weather?every picture i see of England shows cloudy days hehe but no worries the weather doesnt worry me but the transport like i posted and the money i have to bring...
