FULL MOON PARTY 26th JUNE 2010

I am looking to go to The Full Moon Party and was wondering how far in advance would you book accomodation, and wheres good to stay

The best place to stay is Haad Rin itself. If you stay right on Haad Rin Sunrise Beach then you'll be able to hear the music in your room til 5am each morning. Not a problem on Full Moon itself, but something to be aware of if you think you might want the occasional early night during the few days building up to Full Moon.

There are quite a few places in Haad Rin village, i.e. the area between Haad Rin Sunrise beach and Sunset Beach where you're still only a couple of minutes from the beach but far enough away to have a quiet room during the night.

If you get there five days before Full Moon then you can generally find somewhere to stay without any trouble. Turn up later than three days before Full Moon though, and you'll have a very limited choice and find yourself paying over the odds.

However, I think June isn't one of the busiest Full Moons (every Full Moon is busy but I've read figures of between 10,000 people for a quiet Full Moon to 25,000 for a busy Full Moon) so you might find it slightly easier to get somewhere to stay than usual. I'd still recommend getting there five days before though, just to be on the safe side. And also because the week leading up to Full Moon is totally excellent as well. Every night down the beach you can feel it getting more and more of a vibe as more and more people turn uip.

Anyway, my favourite place to stay in Haad Rin is Sea Garden Resort n the street, just along from Chicken Corner. If you were on Sunrise Beach then if you walk to Drop In then head up the alleyway/lane then Sea Garden is at the top of the alleyway. They have rooms right across the spectrum from basic fan rooms (300 baht) to aircon rooms with TV/hot water, and the staff are totally sound.

A place to stay which generally still has vacancies even a day before Full Moon is Anan Bungalows (bizarre name as they only have rooms, not bungalows) which is just along from Chicken Corner as well (next to The Corner Bar). The reason they usually have vacancies is because the rooms are arguably overpriced, so it wouldn't be my first choice, but it's a good place to be aware of as a safety net.

Finally if you would prefer to book in advance then Same Same Lodge and Restaurant and Coral Bungalows are two popular places which I know take internet bookings. Most places insist on a five day minimum stay though over the Full Moon period (some insist on seven days).

Anymore questions about Full Moon or Haad Rin in general then just ask.

cheers mate appreciate that

whats the half moon party like??????

I've never been to a Half Moon Party as they play trance music and that's not really my thing. If you're into trance music though, then they're meant to be good. The Half Moon Party is in the jungle though, so it's a bit of a trek to get there, and you also have to pay to get in, so when you add that to your taxi fair it's a bit of an expensive night by Thailand's standards.
