Hi there Klopatios,
I prefer the train travel. In about 3 hrs (by fast train) you reach Roma Terminus, in the middle of Rome.
This is the fast train, about 100 euro.
In the middle of the journey you can visit Cinque Terra (http://goeurope.about.com/cs/cinqueterr1/l/bl_cinque_map.htm)
(Not the fast) train stops in the little villages and you can hike to another villege, where you can take a train back or onwards.
Good luck!
Gurt.
Hi There Klopatios,
Your gonna love Italy and its great country with some amazing cities.
I found a good website that has some pretty excellent city guides in relation to things to do and see and places to eat. Have a look at it here:
http://iwannagothere.com/travel-guides/italy
The reason I like it so much is that its fun and post are by people who have been there just like you so they know what you should be looking for !!
Anyway this is my first ever post so I hope it helps !!

Hi
i also think that train is best way to move from Milano to Rome for a lot of reason like: cost and time.
Between Milan and Rome you could find some of the most famous italian spot like: tuscany, umbria, cinque terre, bologna.
if you have a car in milan you can visit Como lake or Lago Maggiore (best is a trip around his lakeside), another good spot is Pavia city and his Certosa or Ticino Park. I also like Varallo Sesia and Val Sesia or Val Grande not so famous but it keeps less than 2 hours. Near Milano there's al lot of nature spot as is quite near Alpi but in April i think you could find snow.
This are only some ideas than there's a lot of other things you can visit once you have decided how you will travel.
bye
Hi Klopatios
Italy is wonderful with his landscapes, his monuments and all highlights but hospitality is very expensive and there isn't camping !
In restaurant, food is excellent and very different in each provinces (I prefer Napolitan food rather than North food)
If you like pizzas, pasta, ice cream... you can eat these everywhere in Italy !! Succulent!
hi,
I'll be going to Italy soon too. I was thinking from Venice -> Florence -> Pisa -> Rome -> Naples in 8 days. Is that a good order in term of geography? Also, should I rent a car (for 2,3 days) instead of using the train? Which is cheaper? (We have 3 people). Also, what are some budget hotels we can find in Rome near the attractions? Thanks!
Hi
Venice -> Florence -> Pisa -> Rome -> Naples in 8 days you have to run!
Car is cheap i think you could use it to move it from venice to rome. In Rome you don't need a car (drive in rome is amazing due to traffic). To move rome -> naples go and back train is better.
i have no suggestion about hotel.
bye
